So books...what can I say about books? I love them. I couldn't be without them. I love the smell of them, the feel of them, the joy I get from turning pages and wondering what will happen next in the story...I really couldn't live without books. If I spend too long without one and with nothing at all to read, I get antsy.
I have a lot of favourite books that I have read many times, and that I own numerous copies of. Alice's Adventure's In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass are probably my most favourite books - I have several different copies of both. And I really can't imagine parting with any of them. A couple are antiques.
A lot has been said recently about the e-book (see Sony Reader at Amazon, and how it's going to get rid of paper books, but I really don't see how it can. Illustrations aren't going to show up as well, and there's a lot to be said about the layouts of books, which I don't think will reflect in e-books. Of course, the fact that you would carry 160 books about at once could be useful, but then, who actually needs that many books at once? And I don't know about you, but I personally would begrudge paying again for copies of books I already own just so I can carry them about on a peice of technology.
So, there we go. Books.

Origami
Origami is my new passion I think. I've liked it for a while but wasn't particularly good at it and, cutting paper into squares is not something that's great fun to do. But folding paper is, and as I have mentioned, it is my new favourite thing to do.
P's sister bought me a fold-a-day Origami Calendar for xmas, and I'm having great fun folding the little things every day. Some of them are a little wacky - yesterday I folded a raincoat(!), but on the whole, I'm having a lot of fun.
I don't really know what I plan to do with them all - at the moment they're being deposited in a vase on the side, so if anyone has any ideas, they will be most welcome!
And here's a picture of an Origami Star, just because I think it's pretty. I haven't made anything this interesting yet I'm afraid!

Resolutions
Now all the fesitivities are over and normal life resumes, it seems as good a time as any to write about New Years Resolutions. I have made a few, and broken at least one already, but I've always been bad at keeping them!
I'm not even sure why I bother making them to be honest - it only makes me feel bad when I don't keep to them. But there we go, maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment!
Mine are, this year (and in no particular order):
- To take better care of my hair (which is the one I broke - I didn't brush it til I went to bed on saturday and I didn't brush it at all yesterday!)
- To be better with money - I am, as many people know, bad with money. I aim to be better this year. Of course, getting a permanent job would help with this, but at least I have a job at the moment, so I shouldn't complain too much!
- To be tidier - I hate tidying. I hate cleaning. But I plan to be better at it this year. Starting with the huge mounds of washing I have at home.
So, we'll see how I go. Watch this space, I may update on how well I'm doing. Of course, if I fail them all miserably, I may not!
Oh, you may notice the new layout - I fancied a change!

New Year, New Blog!
So, 2009 is upon us. And here, you may notice, loyal readers (if I have any left!!) there has been a change. A new beginning. Something I've been meaning to do for a while.
One of the reasons I stopped blogging before was that everything here was pretty negative. Looking it at mostly made me feel bad. Remember things I really didn't want to. And so, I've made a resolution that I'm going to try and be more positive on the whole. Here at least. I may still post about things that annoy me, or get me down, but I'm going to try and do it in a way that doesn't leave me wallowing in self pity after I've done it. To make posts that I want to read again, and that other people want to read.
So here is where I'm going to post things that are pretty, things that inspire me, and maybe one or two things I've made myself. And recipes, book reviews and pretty much anything or everything that interests me, and may interest anyone who reads it!
The biggest news of the new year so far is that my grandmother has said I can have her sewing machine. It's a big, old fashioned Singer, in a cabinet of it's own and I'm quite excited about the prospect of owning it. I just have to clear it with the landlord - although I don't see why there should be a problem with it. It belonged to my grandmother's grandmother, so it's pretty much an antique, but it's still in working order, and as I've wanted to own it since I was 5 years old, I really am excited about the prospect of having it in my house. It's just getting it from Bristol that may prove a problem. Although my mother thinks it'll go in the back of her car, with the seats down, so it may not be as bad as all that!
P (my other half for those not in the know) however, thinks that this is not big news, and that bigger news is the fact that he has a new coat, and new jumpers. Although apparently he was being sarcastic!
I think I've said all I can for now...so I'll leave you with this gorgeous wench bodice from Damsel Dress (who I could buy everything from if I had the money):
