Most people I know seem to regard board games as some sort of antiquated way to have fun. They come out at xmas when everyone's bored (no pun intended, hehe).
I however, love them. I make people play them with on a regular basis. My favourite is Scrabble, because wordplay is fun, as is telling other people they can't spell. I also am a big fan of Trivial Pursuit. I'm not so big on Monopoly or Cluedo, mostly because I am rubbish with money and because I am not logical enough to play.
We recently started playing Lord Of The Rings Trivial Pursuit at home, which I must admit is the height of nerdiness. You really do have to have seen all the films a lot for it to be playable. Luckily, I live with two people who are as nerdy as me (if not more when it comes to some things) and so we managed to play fine. I think I still prefer the normal edition though.
I could talk about roleplaying and my love of that here, but I think I'll leave that for another day. Although dice are involved, it's hardly a board game (unless of course you've ever played the D&D board game...but let's not go there!
Instead, I shall leave you with this gorgeous Scrabble Tile Pendant from XOHandworks at Etsy:
